Privacy policy changes from 16 November 2026
Our privacy policy changes on Monday 16 November 2026. Until then the current version applies. Nothing changes about what is encrypted: your locations, places, names, photos and messages are still locked on your phone, and we still cannot read them.
What we keep for a year after you delete your account
India's Digital Personal Data Protection Rules 2025 ask us to keep a record of our processing for a year. So, after an account is deleted, we will keep, for one year:
- the account's id, and the dates it was created and deleted;
- the ids of its devices, whether each was an iPhone, an Android phone or the web, and when each was added and removed;
- which circles it belonged to, in which role, and from when to when;
- for each circle and each day, how many encrypted items were uploaded and their total size.
That is all. There are no locations, names, places or messages in it, because we never had them. The encrypted content itself is still erased when you delete your account, as now. A circle's daily counts go a year after the day they describe.
Two statements, from version 1.0.1 of the app
- When you create an account, you tick “I am 18 or over, or a parent or guardian is setting this up for me.” We record that it was ticked, and when.
- When a circle's paying owner invites someone, they can mark “This person is under 18, and I am their parent or lawful guardian.” We record that mark, who made it, and when.
We do not check either statement, and neither changes what the app does yet.
